China - Beyond the First Tier Cities

Complimentary one hour webinar:
Tuesday, February 23, 2010

04:00 pm, GMT (GMT +00:00, London)

China was named as the top expatriate destination by the 2009 Global Relocation Trends Survey. As a result of larger expatriate volumes and emerging market opportunities, assignees increasingly find themselves living and working in locations beyond the familiar larger cities.

During the last decade, Chinese 2nd and 3rd tier cities experienced a major transformation in their infrastructure, including well designed supermarkets and fancy shopping malls, wide roads and elevated highways, modern airports and train stations hosting bullet trains, spectacular skylines which could rival and even surpass those of major metropolitan cities within Europe and North America. But above all, all these cities are seeing their societies transform. Becoming familiar with the ethnic diversity and particularly the evolution of the habits, values, beliefs and ways of living and working of the Chinese citizens is critical to guarantee a smoother integration into these different regions where the 56 nationalities of China coexist.

This one hour webinar, hosted by Brookfield Global Relocation Services and presented by Victor H. Garza of Berlitz Cultural Consulting network, will examine the specific challenges encountered by expatriates moving to 2nd and 3rd tier cities in China.

Mr. Garza has lived in China since 1997 and is now based in Shanghai where he serves as senior cross-cultural trainer and consultant designing and delivering cross-cultural programs for Chinese and Expatriate communities found throughout China’s major cities. These include Shanghai, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Qingdao, Wuhan and Beijing. He has traveled to all 34 regions and provinces of China.
